book, this excerpt is about Poseidon:
The angers of Poseidon are famous and central in Odysseus ‘s Odyssey. His attribute is the trident with three points. He is figurate by animals which incarnate the principle of fecundity, the horse, the bull, and the dolphin. The mane of the horse by similitude of the noisy undulations of the waves, the lowing of the bull, and the jumping rapidity of the dolphin.
These three symbols have a cumulative effect. Poseidon has the power “ to make spurt out from the underground two springs of water, a hot one and a cold one, and to make push on the ground the feeding plants of every sorts in quantity,” in the fabulous Atlantis described by Plato (Critias, 113e).
