Jean-Michel Lengrand

Jean-Michel Lengrand (born 1955, Paris) is an acclaimed French surrealist artist, painter, sculptor, etcher, and author. As the grandson of impressionist André Lengrand, Lengrand’s artistic legacy is deeply rooted in the traditions of fine art and innovative metaphysical surrealism. Throughout his extensive career, Lengrand is recognized for infusing his paintings with archetypal imagery and profound symbolism.

Lengrand studied at prestigious academies in Paris and Bourges, where he refined his skills in painting and restoration. His artistic journey led him to the Netherlands, where, over fifteen years, he was influenced by Dutch and Flemish masters including Jan van Eyck. This inspired Lengrand to revive the centuries-old amber painting technique, relying on his own handmade paints – a distinct composition of Venetian amber, lavender essential oil, and turpentine. This method gives each Jean-Michel Lengrand painting remarkable luminosity and depth, distinguishing his unique approach within metaphysical art.

After traveling and painting in places like Morocco, Jean-Michel Lengrand moved to the Caribbean in 1994, initially settling in Saint Barthélemy and later in Sint Maarten. He continues to create highly sought-after works, exhibiting both technical mastery and visionary style. Collectors and galleries throughout Europe and the Caribbean recognize Jean-Michel Lengrand’s exceptional use of the amber painting technique and his distinctive presence among postwar & contemporary French artist

The water place with the statue of Venus in background remembers the love context of the situation.
